Wrecking Ball Arts Centre,
Whitefriargate

Garth Cottage is a stone-built cottage on Main Street and probably dates from the middle of the 18th century. The building exhibits a number of original features but has undergone several internal changes over the last 270 years and this continued into the 21st century with new extensions added.

The cottage was formerly linked to the Lords of the Manor of Elloughton cum Brough and from the early 19th century with a substantial house, Elloughton Garth, opposite. The owners of the Garth included the Carmichaels, jewellers, family of Hull.

The talk will explore the architecture, owners and occupiers of one of the oldest properties in Elloughton.
